It is not always about the size of the garden or the diversity of plants. Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden is situated in the Historic District of Kernersville, North Carolina. The development of their Moravian Style Kitchen Garden ties history and available resources together in a small space. Modeled after the gardens of the first settlers of this region, the kitchen garden has only 1000 square feet of growing space devoted to vegetable gardening. Its success has led to collaboration with local municipalities, provided education through school tours, and been rewarded several grants because of the usage, importance to the community, diversity of plantings, and its rich history.
