Sherman Library & Gardens is a 2.2 acre cultural center which encompasses a botanic garden, research library, restaurant and garden shop located in Corona del Mar, California. The Gardens provide a museum of living plants, displayed amidst a setting of immaculate gardens, patios and conservatories linked together by wide brick walkways, beds blooming with seasonal flowers and bubbling tile fountains.
The Gardener, under direct supervision of the Senior Horticulturist, will be working throughout the garden and be responsible for fine gardening in display areas including: annual and perennial flower beds, hanging baskets and pots. They will groom plant material, monitor watering needs, monitor pest problems and maintain their equipment. The Gardener should have basic irrigation knowledge and be able to perform routine repairs. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, team player who is motivated and able to manage time effectively. They should have an interest in plants and horticulture and be looking to increase their knowledge. A friendly, polite and service oriented demeanor is required for professional interactions with garden guests.

Fertilizing, planting, cultivating, weeding
Assisting with horticultural classes
Working with volunteers
Event set up and break down
Education/Work Experience Requirements:
Horticulture Certificate or Associates degree preferred
Fine gardening experience required
CA Driver’s License required
Proof of US citizenship
Must be a “self-starter”
Must be a team player
Able to follow written and oral instructions and communicate well
Able to observe and remember details.
Able to meet garden project completion schedules on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
Able to work well individually, with other staff members and volunteers
Must show interest in horticulture with a desire to learn
Knowledgeable with a variety of plant material
Experience in proper pruning techniques
Skill in using various types of tools
Ability to follow safety procedures, rules and regulations.
Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to bend, twist or reach
Must be able to climb ladders
Have a friendly, polite, service oriented demeanor and interact with the public when appropriate
