As the Assistant Director of Annual Giving, you will report to the Director of Development and be an integral part of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum development team. Your responsibilities will include leading a comprehensive annual giving program for donors with giving levels up to $25,000, and you will also play a meaningful role in planning and executing development events, and in overseeing the stewardship and recognition of annual gifts.
Reports to: Director of Development, Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum
50% - Lead a comprehensive annual giving program:
>Increase annual giving in both donors and dollars through membership acquisition and retention strategies.
>Utilize email, direct mail, social media, web interfaces, multi-media and phone to execute membership appeals aimed at acquiring, retaining and upgrading annual donors.
>Collaborate with the Director of Development to identify a portfolio of lead annual giving prospects.
>Develop and execute plans to cultivate and solicit prospects capable of making leadership annual gifts ($1,000-$25,000).
>Maintain appropriate donor contact including written correspondence, phone calls, and travel and/or hosting for personal visits.
>Communicate tribute opportunities and restrictions with donors.
>Coordinate relationship management with Director of Development to refer qualified major gift prospects and integrate annual fund participation asks within existing major gift strategies.
>Serve as liaison for University Annual Giving (UAG).
>Attend quarterly meetings coordinated by Office of University Development (OUD).
25% - Events:
>Execute logistics for donor-focused events that provide expanded opportunities for donor engagement with MBGNA. Logistics may include: venue selection and space planning, contract negotiation, food and beverage selection, audio-visual planning and contracting, event decor selections, parking and transportation arrangements, and rental furniture and supplies.
>Work in partnership with Communications Manager regarding the design, production, and distribution of invitations, printed programs, and other promotional materials.
>Ensure event planning stays on time and budget
15% - Stewardship:
>Manage donor stewardship process for all gifts including: gift processing, acknowledgement, and relationship management
>Administer Tribute Tracker
>Work with development staff to develop creative methods of recognizing donors and celebrating their gifts
10% - Administration and other duties as assigned
>Supervise Office of Development interns and work-study student workers
>Other duties as assigned
>Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 1-3 years of experience in fundraising/development/alumni relations experience or relevant work experience
>Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships
