Longwood Gardens is seeking a full time Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Technician in the Horticulture Department. This individual will assist the IPM Specialist by scouting, diagnosing, treating, and training staff on plant health care issues across all areas of the conservatory, greenhouses, outdoor gardens and natural areas. This individual will also assist in managing Longwood Garden’s pesticide safety programs.
This work requires a thorough understanding of horticultural practices, plant-pest interactions and control techniques. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of an associate’s degree in entomology, plant pathology, or horticulture and two years equivalent work experience in landscape and/or greenhouse horticulture with an emphasis in pest management scouting, diagnosis, and treatment of a variety of ornamental plants. Must obtain a commercial driver’s license – Class B within 6 months of hire and a PA Pesticide applicator’s license – categories 06 (landscape and ornamental), 09 (aquatics), 10 (right of way/weeds), 23 (parks/schools). Good time management, organizational, and observation skills with strong attention to detail. Experience maintaining small engines and operating spray equipment Fluent with Microsoft office and strong communication skills with the ability to present to diverse audiences. Aerial lift, tractor, and forklift experience a plus.
