PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: Performs all responsible duties associated with the propagation, production, and maintenance of plants, both woody and herbaceous, at consistent levels of high quality in greenhouse and nursery. Position is at the Atlanta Botanical Garden Gainesville.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Master propagation techniques used for propagation of woody and herbaceous plants (seed
sowing, cuttings, grafting, etc.)
Responsible for all aspects of plant care in greenhouse and nursery (watering, fertilization,
pest and disease control, potting, appropriate size of plant, etc.)
Assists supervisor with acquiring/purchasing supplies and materials for plant production.
Effectively use volunteers and students/interns to complete job duties.
Maintains identification labels for all plants in greenhouse and nursery.
Assists with maintenance of landscapes around greenhouse and nursery. Also assists with special projects in greenhouse or nursery as needed.
Operates equipment as needed.
Requires occasional assigned weekend duty.
Communicates in a professional manner with staff, supervisors, volunteers, visitors and others.
Other duties or projects as assigned by supervisor.

Associates Degree in Horticulture, botany or related field or two year of hands-on professional
Know and use safety procedures
Ability to operate hand and power garden equipment
Must have or obtain a Georgia Pesticide Applicator’s License
Able to work well in a team or independent setting
Previous experience working in a public garden setting is a plus
Must be able to sustain moderate physical exertion with full range of body motion for lifting
up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work in all weather conditions
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to effectively respond to multiple, changing and often conflicting priorities is essential. Must be able to effectively interact with the general public and co-workers and peer professionals.
