The Peckerwood Garden Conservation Foundation today announced that Adam Black has been hired as the Director of Horticulture at Peckerwood Gardens, located in Hempstead, Texas, an hour outside of Houston. Mr. Black comes to Peckerwood from the University of Florida, Forest Pathology and Forest Entomology Laboratories, Gainesville, Florida.
“Adam not only has the expertise and experience necessary to maintain and preserve Peckerwood Garden, he also possesses a long-standing passion for plants,” said Sarah Newbery, Peckerwood Garden Foundation board president. “He has many ideas for developing a broader network of support and expanded offerings to garden visitors, and we are extremely excited to see those ideas come to fruition.”
“Adam has extensive knowledge in rare, unusual and endangered plants. His appreciation of such plants strengthens his understanding of Peckerwood’s place in the gardening world and the importance of preserving John Fairey’s visionary garden and carrying it into the future,” said Kathy Huber, job search committee chair.
Adam Black will assume his position immediately. “I have fond memories of my one visit to Peckerwood a number of years ago, and I look forward to working in such an important, fascinating, and beautiful garden,” said Mr. Black.
