In 2002, Mt. Cuba Center was granted Plant Collections Network recognition as an official collection holder of the genusTrillium. At the present time, the collection includes 82 taxa, represented by 462 individual accessions. Species, varieties, cultivars and horticulturally interesting forms are represented in aesthetically pleasing combinations with other woodland natives. Our goal is to use the collection to develop a better understanding of the factors that influence propagation, growth, and development in the genus and to use that information for both horticultural and conservation purposes. Currently we are working with partners to study the phylogenetics of the pedicillate trillium species in North America.
