Houston Botanic Garden (Garden) is pleased to welcome Brent Moon as Horticulture Manager. Brent will work closely with the Vice President of Horticulture, Joy Columbus, to help with construction oversight and the development of the horticulture team that will maintain the Garden once construction is complete in fall 2020. Once open, Brent will be responsible for maintenance of the Garden and will support the garden education department.
“We are thrilled to welcome Brent to the horticulture team,” said Joy Columbus, Vice President of Horticulture, “His impressive experience and botanical knowledge will be essential in making Houston Botanic Garden a world class garden.”
As horticulture manager, Brent will contribute in the development of the innovative garden design and plant selection, assess the progress of construction work and ultimately manage the long-term, day to day maintenance of the Garden upon its completion. Brent previously served as the senior superintendent for the horticulture department at the City of Houston where he managed the horticulture program and downtown ground maintenance, including landscaping and plant inventory. Additionally, Brent gained experience working with the Missouri Botanical Garden as a horticulturist where he oversaw maintenance on 10 acres of the 79-acre garden. Brent received his Bachelor of Science in agriculture with a specialization in horticulture from Murray State University.
“I am excited to be part of the team that will build Houston Botanic Garden from the ground up,” said Moon. “Once open, the Garden will be a great cultural asset to the Houston community and will educate visitors about plants all around the country.”
Set to open in fall of 2020, Houston Botanic Garden will support the conservation of plant diversity from Houston and around the world, and inspire an appreciation of our precious natural world, creating an opportunity for people to connect with plants. When complete, the Garden will draw visitors from near and far, and will serve as a cultural asset for the neighboring community.

Houston Botanic Garden is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enrich lives through discovery, education, and the conservation of plants and the natural environment.
The Garden is being developed on a 132 acre-site located a short distance from downtown Houston. The first of several planned phases over the next 30 years is expected to open in fall 2020, and will set the foundation for Houston’s next major cultural institution. Houston Botanic Garden will provide a place to learn about plants, conservation, and nature, connect Houstonians across different cultures and ethnicities, and provide a missing piece to our world-class city’s cultural institutions and greenspaces.
