Polly Hill Arboretum

This 72-acre property on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, is named for its founder, Polly Hill. In 1958 she began planting seeds from around the world to find out what would grow in the Island’s climate. The gardens opened to the public in 1998, and in 2015, the Arboretum was named in the National Register of Historic Places. Authentic stone walls, fields, and original buildings are the framework to a diverse collection of 1,600 plant varieties. Visitor favorites include the flowering dogwood allée, unique monkey puzzle trees, and a big-leaf magnolia with blossoms 18” wide! The Visitor Center is open from Memorial Day through Columbus Day, and the grounds are open year-round, daily from sunrise to sunset.
