Connecticut College Arboretum

The Connecticut College Arboretum’s diverse 750 acres include the landscaped grounds of the campus as well as the surrounding native plant collections, natural areas and managed landscapes. The Arboretum was established in 1931 with the development of the Native Plant Collection which today features over 300 kinds of woody plants, a four acre pond and several special places: the Laurel Walk, Outdoor Theater and the Woodland Wildflower Garden. Established in the late 1920s, the Caroline Black Garden is an assemblage of the finest species and varieties of ornamental trees and shrubs for landscaping. Over 200 different species of trees from all over the world and sweeping views of Long Island Sound form the basis of the Campus Landscape. These resources all support the College’s mission of preparing the next generation of citizen-leaders, whose diverse responsibilities will include crafting a sustainable relationship with the natural world. Our institution distinguishes itself by a long-standing commitment to conservation and environmental studies. Perfect for visiting by botanists and day trippers alike, the Arboretum is open to the public every day of the year, sunrise to sunset, no admission is charged.
