The North Carolina Arboretum has been able to keep it’s entire staff employed thanks to donations from the community.

Executive director George Briggs said when the arboretum was closed, much of its revenue stream stopped.

Briggs said two-thirds of the staff depend on gate fees, weddings, programs and store profits. He said they were able to stay on board thanks to $160,000 in donations.

“It’s an exciting place, it’s an inspiring place and the thing that makes it most inspiring is how much public support we have here,” Briggs said.

The arboretum’s trails just reopened this past weekend, but the buildings are still closed.

You can support the arboretum by paying gate fees, subscribing to online classes or buying a membership.
