Shirah Goldweber, who helped establish the event program at Bin 526 on Daniel Island, S.C., has been named promotions and special events coordinator at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Goldweber was special events coordinator at Bin 526, a locally owned boutique wine bar, craft beer and spirits store. Before joining Bin 526 she was the assistant recreation and food and beverage manager at the Wyndham Ocean Ridge on Edisto Island, S.C.
Goldweber and her assistant Josie Cox will organize special events at Magnolia. She will also help stage the garden’s premier fundraiser Wishes In Bloom launched two years ago to benefit Make-A-Wish South Carolina. Goldweber succeeds Karen Lucht who is joining Make-A-Wish South Carolina in a newly created position of regional development officer for the Myrtle Beach, Lowcounty and Hilton Head Island region.
Goldweber said, “I am honored and thrilled to join the team at Magnolia. I am looking forward to sharing my love of events with the Charleston community and continuing the traditions and legacy of Magnolia.”
On her move to Make-A-Wish South Carolina, Lucht said, “Through my position at Magnolia, I have had the opportunity to partner with many amazing businesses and individuals in the community to deliver the Wishes In Bloom benefit event for Make-A-Wish South Carolina for the past two years. I’ve witnessed the generosity of the hearts of the Lowcountry and experienced firsthand the impact a wish makes on not only the wish child, but the wish family, volunteers and all those associated with the wish. I am excited to join the Make-A-Wish team and help raise awareness of this incredible mission here in the Lowcountry and coastal region and raise funds to grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses right here in the area.” Wishes In Bloom will be held at Magnolia on May 19, 2019.
Tom Johnson, Magnolia’s executive director, said, “Our friendship and association with Karen will continue as we prepare for the next Wishes In Bloom. Karen was a key player in our outreach to the community. She skillfully worked with Magnolia’s staff to offer carefully planned and executed special events. I am personally excited and confidant that Shirah will carry on our tradition of excellence.”
Goldweber is a 2015 graduate of Kent State University where she earned a degree in science, recreation, park and tourism management. She also holds a wine certification from the American Wine School.
