The Land & Garden Preserve is pleased to announce Taylor “Tate” Bushell as our Natural Lands Director. Tate will be managing the Preserve’s natural lands in Northeast and Seal Harbors. In this newly created position, Tate is responsible for leading all aspects of management, conservation, restoration, adaptation, and research for more than 1,000 acres of natural lands within the Preserve. He will also develop new educational programs and manage trail volunteers.
Most recently, Tate was the Director of Land Stewardship at the Westchester Land Trust in Bedford Hills, NY. He has also worked as an ecological consultant with The Nature Conservancy. Tate has his master’s degree in ecosystem management from the University of Vermont.
The Land & Garden Preserve is a non-profit organization located in Seal Harbor and Northeast Harbor, Maine. The mission of the Preserve is to share the beauty of historic lands and gardens on Mount Desert Island. The gardens are comprised of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden, Asticou Azalea Garden, and Thuya Garden. The Preserve manages natural lands from the head of Northeast Harbor, across Little Long Pond, and east to Hunter’s Cliffs in Seal Harbor. These lands include a vast network of hiking trails and nearly ten miles of carriage roads. The lands and gardens managed by the Preserve are open to the public.
