The Chanticleer Foundation Board of Directors announces the latest recipient of the Chanticleer Scholarship in Professional Development.
Ayse Pogue, Senior Horticulturist at Chicago Botanic Garden, will travel to learn more about Japanese style gardening. Ayse will participate in the Waza to Kokoro program in Portland, Oregon and the Japanese Garden Intensive Seminar in Kyoto, Japan.
Ben Futa, Director at the Allen Centennial Garden, will attend in the American Alliance of Museums conference in St Louise, Missouri and visit gardens across the US to learn from museums and gardens that are effective at engaging the public in meaningful ways.
Francheska Snyder, Head Gardener at Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, pursued training in Japanese gardening and building techniques working under a master in various locations throughout Japan.
Gabe Tilove, Adult Education Coordinator at Phipps Conservatory and
Botanical Garden, will attend the NeighborWorks America Community Engagement Program and professional facilitation and leadership training to learn how to build stronger outreach programs that directly meet community needs.
Gerald Dieleman, Project Director at Assiniboine Park Conservancy in Winnipeg, will pursue academic training at the University of Manitoba, attend the American Public Gardens: Arts & Exhibitions Symposium hosted by the Denver Botanic Garden, as well as subsequent travel to meet with public garden professionals.
Kurt Dreisilker, Head of Natural Resources at the Morton Arboretum, will participate in the 2017 Executive Education Program for Museum Leaders, offered by the Getty Leadership Institute.
Sarah Beck, Program Manager at the American Public Gardens Association, attended the Nonprofit Management Course offered in fall 2016 through Duke University.
The Chanticleer Scholarship promotes creativity and leadership by providing professional development opportunities for public garden staff. It has two core components, academic study to improve leadership skills and support of travel to meet with leaders to build on that academic experience. Each Scholar has the opportunity to visit other gardens, including Chanticleer, a 35-acre pleasure garden in Wayne, PA. The next scholarship application deadlines are July 1 and November 1, 2017.
