Location: Hockessin, Delaware
Mt. Cuba Center seeks an enthusiastic Public Engagement Coordinator who will provide excellent skills and services in support of the Public Engagement  Team. Mt. Cuba Center is a non-profit horticultural organization dedicated to the study, conservation, and appreciation of plants of the Eastern United States, with a particular emphasis on the Piedmont region. 
The Public Engagement Coordinator is responsible for providing support in the areas of program development, marketing, interpretation, and public outreach for Mt. Cuba Center.  He/she works collaboratively with other staff to develop and execute public programs and marketing tasks under the direction of the Manager of Public Engagement.
  • Researches, develops, trains staff, delivers and evaluates public programs, including monthly self-guided tours, discovery stations, what’s in bloom, gallery and other programs that support MCC’s mission.
  • Works with Manager of Visitor Experience in the smooth delivery of public programs through the docent program.
  • Works with Manager of Visitor Experience and the Manager Public Engagement to build and implement Mt. Cuba Center’s interpretive plan, including signage, print materials, and programming.
  • Creates, delivers and evaluates interpretation material that is centered on Mt Cuba Center’s interpretive plan.
  • With the guidance and approval of the Manager of Public Engagement, plans annual budget and strategies for program execution.
  • Provides content development assistance to the Manager of Public Engagement by writing/editing news articles, public releases, social media postings, other collateral and web content.
  • Provides administrative support to the Manager of Public Engagement by coordinating aspects of the Volunteer program and neighbor Program.
  • Provides weekend and off hour oversight on a regular basis.
  • Actively participates in like-minded organizations and professional associations to further visitor experience goals.
  • Participates in first response team.
Education, Skills, Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in horticulture, ecology or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently and exhibit good decision making are critical.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, problem solving skills, and attention to detail are necessary.
  • Ability to act as a leader and interact well with others in a team environment with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the staff and the public.
  • Certified Interpreter training and accreditation preferred.
  • Broad horticultural or ecology knowledge preferred and practical work experience in a public garden or tourism/hospitality setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite preferred. 
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays and special events as needed.
  • Consistently high demonstration of Mt. Cuba Center’s core values.
Valid driver’s license.
Date Available:  Immediately
