Regional Trees Initiative Coordinator

The Morton Arboretum

Position Available: Regional Trees Initiative Coordinator Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt

Department: Community Trees

General Summary: Provide support for the development, coordination, communication, and administration of the Regional Trees Initiative and integration with the Community Trees Program. The Community Trees Program provides education and outreach to land managers and owners in order to improve management practices and the health of the urban forest. The Regional Trees Initiative is a collaborative effort, coordinated by The Morton Arboretum, to bring together leading organizations to work toward improving the urban forest throughout the Chicago Region.

Job Qualifications:

Previous Training and Experience
Experience in organizing meetings and presenting events or educational sessions. Experience with community and civic organizations and processes desirable. Familiarity with GIS mapping and analysis. Good communication skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and customer service ethic required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite essential. Experience with Constant Contact or other social media and web development is desired. Must possess a valid driver’s license, which is subject to insurability and an annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report.

Physical/Mental Requirements
Must possess excellent decision-making, verbal, editing, and proofreading skills; ability to nimbly manage complex tasks and concurrent projects; effective time-management skills; and a positive and flexible approach to the job. Must be able to work weekend and evening hours as required.

Working Conditions:
1. Work is primarily performed indoors in an office setting; events require working in various venues, usually indoors.
2. Requires some physical activity: limited lifting and carrying (up to 30 lbs.), walking over all types of terrain.
3. Travel to community events throughout the Chicago area; occasional distance travel via, auto, train, or airplane may be required.
