Sarah P. Duke Gardens, located in Durham, NC, is a 55-acre display, and education-oriented botanical garden located on the campus of Duke University.  The Gardens are divided into distinct sections that include The Blomquist Garden of Native Plants, The Culberson Asiatic Arboretum, The Historic Italianate Terraces, The Doris Duke Visitor Center Gardens and the new Charlotte Brody Discovery Garden.  The Gardens hosts many university and community programs and attracts about 300,000 visitors annually.

Our 2013 program offers 4 Horticulture Internships.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Interns will rotate through all garden areas and participate in a wide range of horticulture experiences and responsibilities. Day-to-day the interns will be working directly with Gardens staff, assisting with planting, watering, weeding, pruning, mulching and overall garden maintenance.

Interns will gain insight into the broad range horticulture practices, industries, and garden design through visits to local gardens, nurseries and other major public gardens in North Carolina. Each intern will also complete an independent project with direction and assistance from Duke Gardens staff, many past intern projects have been implemented.
