Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum’s Botany department is seeking a new curator. This full-time position is responsible for the management of the Museum's botanical collection and its landscapes. Responsibilities for all departmental operations include: daily supervision and collaboration with horticulturists & volunteers, plant health care, budget preparation & management, record keeping, and event planning. With other staff, the curator will participate in planning, design, and development of habitat exhibits & gardens. Secondary responsibilities include: collaborating with ASDM’s animal departments and the Conservation Education and Science Department, interpreting the Sonoran Desert region's biodiversity, representing the Museum's interests on issues involving plants with governmental agencies and with education & conservation organizations, as well as planning and monitoring the propagation, collection, and purchase of plants needed for exhibits and events.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in public outreach, team project management, and a broad knowledge of natural history, plant propagation and cultivation, landscape design, and irrigation management.

B.S. degree in related field. Proven people management skills (with minimum two years paid experience) managing and motivating multiple employees required. Minimum of four years paid experience in collections management and care, research or exhibitry in a related field along with propagation, landscape design or endangered species recovery. Availability for weekend work on a rotational basis is necessary. Valid Arizona driver's license and satisfactory driving record required. A little more about ASDM: Located in Tucson Mountain Park, just outside of Saguaro National Park -West, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a world-renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden. Exhibits recreate the natural landscape of the Sonoran Desert region. Within the Museum grounds there are more than 300 animal species and 1,200 kinds of plants. There are almost two miles of paths traversing 21 acres of beautiful desert. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and are a member of the American Public Gardens Association and the American Association of Museums.
