Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is a world-renowned premier cultural institution located on 132 Acres in West Michigan seeking a candidate to join their team of Horticulturists. Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park  includes Michigan’s largest tropical conservatory; three indoor theme gardens; outdoor gardens, nature trails and boardwalks; sculpture galleries and permanent sculpture collection; library; audiovisual theater; café; gift shop; classrooms; and meeting rooms.  
Summary of Responsibilities
Performs all duties associated with design, installation, maintenance and care of horticultural displays and collections.  Performs a wide range of plant care/maintenance tasks important to the preservation, protection and transplanting of existing plants; including but not limited to soil preparation, planting, pruning, mulching, weeding, watering, fertilization, irrigation and pesticide application.  Must have the ability to design, plan, organize and execute daily and seasonal activities to maintain indoor gardens and plant collections.  May be responsible for interacting with the media (TV, radio, newspaper, etc).  The ability to work alone or as a team with an emphasis on working cooperatively and effectively with other Associates as well as the ability to learn to operate large equipment and power equipment is required. The position is full-time year-round and includes assistance with snow and ice removal.  
Requirements - Education and/or qualifications preferred: 
  • Minimum of (2-3) years’ hands-on, relevant horticulture work experience required.
  • Excellent working knowledge of tropical, annual, and greenhouse plant materials and maintenance techniques; proficient in operating various landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels; must enjoy and feel comfortable interacting and working in close proximity to general public, in a safe and friendly manner, answering questions regarding horticulture collection.
  • Must be able to perform simple tasks independently after being given assignments. 
  • B.S. degree in Horticulture, Biology, Botany and/or related field.
  • Proficient experience using Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Outlook, Access, Excel, Word)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain valid drivers, chauffeurs, equipment operators, and pesticide applicator’s licenses
  • An equivalent combination of skills, education and experience may be considered.
