Following a recent restructure, the role of Director, Horticultural Operations has been re-positioned to lead the strategic and horticultural operational management of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney and the Domain; the Australian Botanic Gardens, Mount Annan; and the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens, Mount Tomah.  The Director will ensure the conservation and appreciation of the natural, cultural and historic values of the Botanic Gardens through the development and implementation of strategic plans and programs, consistent with statutory responsibilities and corporate policies.  This will include managing issues relating to conservation of biodiversity and sustainability, as well as identifying and exploiting commercial opportunities for the gardens.

 

This pivotal role requires an outstanding individual who has led horticultural operations with a world class garden, arboretum, historic property or related environmental institution, offering a proven understanding of the contemporary roles of botanic gardens and the importance of plants and gardens for the general community in the environmental debate.  Candidates will require broad executive capabilities, encompassing strategic and operational planning; financial and risk management; stakeholder engagement and presentation skills; and the proven capacity to develop commercial opportunities in a public or private sector environment.  Candidates will also need to display exceptional leadership skills, including proven experience in leading cultural and change management initiatives and building high performing teams across multisite operations.
