Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library is the home of the former H.F. DuPont with 1000 acres of naturalistic gardens set amid the rolling hills of Delaware’s Brandywine Valley area. Job Responsibility: The Natural Lands Technician is responsible for all environmental tasks on the 1000 acres Winterthur Estate including stream quality, garden irrigation, agriculture, composting, wildlife management, meadow/wetland management and invasive plant control. They are responsible for working with interns and volunteers. This position is considered an essential employee, to help with weather emergencies or situations that need immediate attention, such as snow removal/inclement weather and event setup as necessary.
The Natural Resources Technician organizes work schedules, monitors environmental resources, provides environmental programming, and provides hands on environmental maintenance i.e. spraying or pulling invasive, monitoring water quality, keeping accurate records on wildlife.
Job Requirements: Preferred – BS in Environmental Management; Minimum – BS in Environmental Management or related field or equivalent years of experience. Minimum: Have the ability to express ideas clearly, orally and in writing. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Ability to take directions orally and in writing. Knowledge of and ability to work with hand and power tools related to Horticulture. Good knowledge of garden terminology and use of large garden equipment. Basic knowledge of estate environmental practices. Preferred: Good working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, working knowledge of GIS and GPS mapping. Good working knowledge of I.P.M. and plant identification. Ability to develop and deliver presentations on his/her specified area of expertise. Full time position with benefits.
