Annual Appeal

Who is the future of public gardens? Will you support their career evolution?

2012 Conference Student Travel Award Winners

APGA’s mission is to advance public gardens as a force for positive change in their communities through leadership, advocacy, and innovation. To help further this mission, APGA is proud to dedicate its 2012 Annual Appeal toward our emerging professionals.

Many of us remember our first opportunity to attend a professional conference.  If your experience was anything like mine, you learned a lot and made connections that helped you in your career.

In 2011, donations through the Annual Appeal enabled thirteen enthusiastic students to attend the 2012 conference in Columbus.

2011 Student Travel Award Recipients

"My attendance of the APGA conference in Columbus through the Student Travel Award afforded me the opportunities to make meaningful connections with professionals in the field of public horticulture, listen to, and gain insight from, current events and the future of this field, and to experience stunning gardens that I had yet to visit. As a second-time attendee of the conference as an emerging professional, I am grateful to APGA for this valuable opportunity that has continued to affirm my career goals in the field of public horticulture."

"From my experience, the APGA Student Travel Award is the embodiment of mentorship and works to fulfill the Association's goal of nurturing the Emerging Professionals of the APGA membership demographic. The Student Travel Award enables committed individuals to attend the conference and gain access to a vibrant professional network both at the conference and beyond. Furthermore, the Award lends credibility to the students who receive the award, which furthers their ability to leverage APGA as a valuable professional network in future endeavors."

With your support, we can open up the world of public horticulture to the next generation of garden leaders by providing memberships, professional support, and grants to the APGA Conference - “Garden Evolution 2013”. Surely our obligation as established professionals in our field is to invest in these individuals who will help determine our gardens' futures.

Together, we will continue to provide unique professional development and other support for students to help them fulfill their career aspirations in public horticulture, just as you have.

We would greatly appreciate your support. This is the one time per year we appeal to you, the individual member, for support beyond the dues that you or your institution pays. Any amount you can contribute helps support our future leaders.

Show your support by making your gift today!

Yours,
Dr. Casey Sclar
